Spring pricing / Miami-Dade
Garage door spring replacement cost in Miami-Dade
Expect roughly $250 to $450 for a pair of torsion springs fitted, and $200 to $330 if your door still runs on extension springs. Those are Miami-Dade market figures, not our quote — the final number depends on the door's weight, which on an approved hurricane door is higher than most people assume.

Three things that set the number
Always in pairs
one broke, the other is the same age
Cycle rating
10,000 cycles is the builder default
Labor is most of it
winding bars and balance, not the part
What actually changes a spring quote
Torsion or extension
Torsion sits above the door and costs more to fit safely

Wire size and length
The spring is matched to the door's exact weight

Cycle rating chosen
A higher-cycle spring costs more and lasts longer

Coastal-grade coating
Galvanized or coated wire resists salt and humidity

What moves a spring replacement quote in this county
| What varies | Why it changes the price | Effect | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Torsion vs extension | Torsion carries the load above the opening and needs winding bars | Torsion is the higher line | Most Miami-Dade doors are torsion |
| Door weight | The spring is sized to the door, not to the opening | Heavier door, heavier spring | Insulated and hurricane-rated doors weigh more |
| Cycle rating | A 10,000-cycle spring is the builder default; higher ratings exist | Higher rating, higher part cost | Roughly seven years at four cycles a day |
| Pair vs single | Springs age together, so one break means the second is due | A pair costs less than two visits | Refusing the pair usually books the same call twice |
| Same-day or after hours | Emergency scheduling carries a surcharge | Adds to the labor line | A door stuck open is worth the surcharge |
| Bearings, cables and drums | Worn hardware around the spring is replaced with it | Small parts, real difference in life | Cheapest moment to do it is now |

More detail if you want it
Torsion costs more, and it should
Torsion springs sit on a shaft above the opening and unwind under controlled tension. Fitting them takes winding bars and an exact turn count, and getting either wrong is how technicians get hurt. Extension springs run alongside the tracks, are simpler to swap, and show up mostly on older or lighter doors. The price gap reflects the tooling and the risk, not a markup.

Three things that move the number
Door weight first. Panels built to the county's impact standard carry thicker gauge steel and internal reinforcement, and the spring has to be sized to whatever that assembly actually weighs. Cycle rating second: a higher-cycle spring costs more up front and is usually cheaper over the life of a door that opens six or eight times a day. Condition of everything else third — if the cables are frayed or the rollers are shot, replacing them during the same visit costs a fraction of a second call-out.
An after-hours call-out adds a surcharge on top of the job, not instead of it. It is worth asking whether that surcharge is credited back when the repair goes ahead — some companies do, and the ones that do not should say so before they drive over.

Why a quote below the range should worry you
A figure well under the local range usually means one of three things: a single spring is being replaced instead of the pair, a spring of the wrong cycle rating is being fitted, or the person quoting is not licensed to do the work at all. The first two you discover in a year. The third you discover when you sell the house.

| Work | Typical range | What moves the price | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Torsion spring replacement (pair) | $250 – $450 | Higher than extension springs: winding bars are required and the job carries real injury risk. Always replaced in pairs. | Book this — Torsion spring replacement (pair) |
| Extension spring replacement | $200 – $330 | Less common on Miami-Dade doors: hurricane-rated panels are heavier and usually call for torsion. | Book this — Extension spring replacement |
| Rollers or track repair | $75 – $350 | Per visit. Often bundled with a spring or cable job rather than billed alone. | Book this — Rollers or track repair |
| After-hours call-out surcharge | $100 – $150 | Added to the job, not charged instead of it. Ask whether it is waived when the repair goes ahead. | Book this — After-hours call-out surcharge |

Garage door spring replacement cost, question by question
Why is a garage door spring replacement quoted for two springs?
Because both were installed the same day and have lifted the door the same number of times, so the intact one is close to the end of its own count.
- One new spring beside one worn spring pulls unevenly
- Uneven pull loads the opener on one side
- The second callout costs more than the second spring
Are these garage door spring prices your prices?
No. These are market figures gathered from published Florida cost data, so you can judge a quote before accepting it.
- Our quote follows the door in front of us
- Its measured weight
- Its drum type and the state of the shaft
Does homeowners insurance pay for a broken garage door spring?
Almost never. Springs fail from ordinary wear, and wear is excluded from standard policies.
- Wear: excluded
- Storm damage to the door: a different question
Can I buy the garage door spring myself and pay only for labor?
Most companies decline, and for a defensible reason: a warranty cannot cover a part somebody else specified.
- Matched to the door's measured weight
- Matched to the drum radius
- A mis-sized spring strains the opener

Before you decide
- How long springs lastA standard torsion spring is rated for about 10,000 open-and-close cycles, which works out to roughly seven years for a household that uses the door four times a day.10,000cycles on a standard torsion spring

Garage door won't openMost doors that refuse to open have one of three faults: a snapped torsion spring, a trolley that has been pulled off the opener rail, or simply a dead remote battery.2 ingap in the coil means a broken spring- Grants and financingA garage door is explicitly named as opening protection in the state's mitigation grant statute, which puts up two dollars for every one you spend, to a ceiling of $10,000.$10,000statutory ceiling of the state mitigation grant
- WarrantyWe do not publish a warranty length, and the reason is arithmetic rather than caution: a torsion spring is rated by the manufacturer in cycles, one cycle being a single opening and closing, so the same pair lasts three years on a door used eight times a day and fourteen on a door used twice.10,000cycles in the common household spring grade — one cycle is one open and close
