Repair pricing
One visit, several parts — that is what makes a repair bill
Almost everything that fails on a garage door is a worn moving part, and the market rate for those runs between roughly one and four hundred dollars fitted. What decides your invoice is not which part broke, it is how many the technician can reach while the door is already unloaded — because the setup is charged once and shared by everything replaced in that same hour.

Grouping parts beats replacing them one at a time
Taking the tension out of a door is the slow half of the job. Springs are wound down, cables freed at the drum, the assembly blocked so nothing can drop — and once that is done, adding a set of rollers or a fresh pair of cables costs minutes rather than a second call-out. Two jobs quoted as two full visits are charging you that setup twice, and it is the single easiest thing to check on an estimate.
It is also why a technician who spots a second tired component mentions it there and then instead of booking a return. On a door where the strands have begun to open at the drum, coming back in four months means paying the whole visit again for something that would have taken ten minutes today.

When a quote sits under the range, something is missing
Three omissions cover most of it. One spring fitted where both were due, which halves today's figure and returns you here inside two years. Standard hardware on an address near salt air, where the coated equivalent costs a few tens of dollars and lasts about twice as long. And a call-out fee described as free that reappears as a line item once the work is agreed.
Above the range the question flips: what does the extra buy. High-cycle springs on a door that opens a dozen times a day, or sealed bearings within sight of the water, are both defensible and both easy to name out loud. A premium nobody can itemize is not.

| Work | Typical range | What moves the price | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Torsion spring replacement (pair) | $250 – $450 | Higher than extension springs: winding bars are required and the job carries real injury risk. Always replaced in pairs. | Book this — Torsion spring replacement (pair) |
| Extension spring replacement | $200 – $330 | Less common on Miami-Dade doors: hurricane-rated panels are heavier and usually call for torsion. | Book this — Extension spring replacement |
| Lift cable replacement (pair) | $225 – $375 | Always both sides: they were cut from one reel and have hauled the same load. Coastal addresses pay more for galvanized hardware, and it is worth it. | Book this — Lift cable replacement (pair) |
| Rollers or track repair | $75 – $350 | Per visit. Often bundled with a spring or cable job rather than billed alone. | Book this — Rollers or track repair |
| Off-track realignment | $200 – $350 | Assumes the track itself is straight. A door pulled off by a vehicle usually bends the track, and that is a different repair. | Book this — Off-track realignment |
| Single panel replacement | $225 – $475 | Florida figures. In the HVHZ the replacement panel must carry its own approval, which narrows the choice and lifts the price. | Book this — Single panel replacement |
| Opener repair (board or capacitor) | $175 – $300 | Worth trying before a replacement. A great many openers written off as dead have taken a surge and need one component. | Book this — Opener repair (board or capacitor) |

Garage door repair cost: the questions behind the number
Is the garage door diagnostic really free if I decline the repair?
Yes, with no obligation attached. This is the exception in our network — the other markets we serve charge an inspection fee credited against the job.
- No trip charge
- No signature expected before we leave
The owner took the view that a door nobody has examined cannot be quoted honestly, and that the examination should not be a purchase.
My garage door still opens. Can the repair wait a few weeks?
It depends entirely on which part is tired, and the split is sharp rather than a matter of degree.
- Worn roller or dry track: it will wait
- Frayed cable: it will not
- Spring missing a coil: it will not
The two that cannot wait transfer load onto components that were never meant to carry it, which is how one part failing becomes three.
Can a garage door repair cost more than a new door?
Rarely one repair, often three at once — and that is the arithmetic worth asking about before agreeing to the first of them.
- Sections rusted through
- A bent track
- A failed operator
Those three on one door add up past the entry price of a new rated assembly, and at that point the money belongs in the replacement.
