A panel is dented or damaged
Garage Door Panel Replacement in Miami-Dade
Damaged panel? We measure before we order anything.
A dent, a crack or a bowed section: yes, we handle this, and the first question is whether one section can be replaced or the door has to be.
A damaged section can come from an impact, corrosion at a seam, or a section that has bowed out of line. On a rated door the approval label decides what may be fitted. We measure the opening, read the label, and give you the price before approved work begins.

A near-enough panel is the wrong panel.
Profile, gauge and approval have to match, not just the color. A section that breaks the approval breaks it for the whole door.

Quick answer
When can one panel be replaced, and when not?
One section can often be replaced. What decides it is the profile, the approval and whether the damage stayed in one section.
The most common causes we see
A dent that looks cosmetic has usually moved the hinge line behind it, and that is what decides the answer.
Impact damage
The dent is visible; the moved hinge line behind it usually is not.
A cracked stile
A crack along a stile spreads with every cycle, and it never stops on its own.
Corrosion at a seam
Rust at a seam is water that got in months ago and has been working since.
A bowed section
A bowed section will not stay in any track, however straight the track is.
What the problem looks like
Customers usually describe it one of these ways.
These are some of the most common ways homeowners describe the problem.
Something hit the door
A bumper or a ladder, and the corner it touched is where we start.
It looks fine but runs badly
The section moved even if the paint did not, and the track feels it.
Rust is coming through the paint
Seam corrosion works from the inside, so what you see is late.
One section sticks out
A bow is visible along the face of the door and nowhere else.
What we check on site
Measure, read the label, then order.
A section is ordered against the opening it sits in, and on a rated door the approval comes before anything is unbolted.
Section profile and gauge
Which section, which profile, and whether the model is still made.
Approval label
On a rated door, the label decides what may be fitted at all.
Hinge line behind the damage
Elongated holes and torn steel that a dent hides from the outside.
Track and rollers at that height
A struck section usually took the track with it.
Weight change after the swap
A different section weight changes the balance, and the spring has to answer for it.
Bottom bracket and cable
Never unbolted with the door loaded, and always checked when the bottom section changes.

Likely repair paths
What the fix often turns out to be.

Single section replacement
When the damage stayed in one section and the model is still available, one section is the whole job.
What section service can include
- Profile and gauge matched to the existing door
- Hinge and hardware transfer or replacement
- Balance re-check after the swap
- Approval verification on rated doors

Strut and reinforcement
A strut stops a section bowing again, and on a rated door it is part of the approval.
What reinforcement can include
- Horizontal strut fitted to the section
- Fixing pattern matched to the approval
- Opener arm reinforcement where needed
- Travel and force reset after the work

Rated door paperwork
The label decides what may be fitted; a section that breaks it breaks the whole door's approval.
What the paperwork covers
- Approval number read from the panel label
- Matching section sourced against that approval
- Permit filed where the assembly changes
- Documentation left with you after the work
No surprises

More detail if you want it
Why a near-enough match is not a match
Sections from different manufacturers can share a height, a rib pattern and a color and still be different products in every way the code cares about: skin thickness, internal reinforcement, the strut positions, the hinge spacing. Bolting one into an approved door produces something nobody tested, which means the door as installed no longer matches the document filed with the permit. Nothing visible changes on the day. What changes is what a buyer's inspector finds later.
So the first thing we do on this job is find out what the door actually is. The approval label lives on the inside of a section, usually near an end stile, and it names the maker and the product. With it, sourcing the correct section is ordinary procurement. Without it — because the label has been painted over, or because the door predates the requirement — the honest answer is sometimes that a single section cannot be certified, and that a full replacement is the only version of this repair that leaves the paperwork intact.

What the impact did that you cannot see
The dented skin is the symptom, not the extent. Force that folds a section travels through the hinges into the rollers and the track, and it frequently bends a bottom bracket or scores a drum on the way. Fitting a new section onto that hardware puts a straight panel into a crooked path, and the new section binds within weeks. We check the track alignment and the cable geometry before ordering anything, because the order is not reversible.
If a vehicle or a storm caused it, photograph everything before any of it moves, from inside the garage and from the driveway. Turning up to a repaired opening, an assessor has nothing left to assess but your account of it, and the section refused on a claim is nearly always the one that was cleaned away before anyone recorded it.

| Work | Typical range | What moves the price | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single panel replacement | $225 – $475 | Florida figures. In the HVHZ the replacement panel must carry its own approval, which narrows the choice and lifts the price. | Book this — Single panel replacement |
| HVHZ-approved single door, installed | $4,500 – $7,500 | Miami-Dade NOA doors run 15–25% above a standard impact-rated door because of the added test protocols. | Book this — HVHZ-approved single door, installed |

Replacing one garage door section instead of the door
Can a section still be found for a ten-year-old garage door?
Often yes, and it depends on the maker rather than the age — some keep a profile in production for years, others revise it every few seasons.
- The door label answers it within a day
- Discontinued profile: visible mismatch
- Or a full replacement instead
Where the profile is genuinely gone, that choice belongs to you rather than to us.
Can a dent be pulled out of a garage door section?
On an old single-skin door, sometimes, and only cosmetically. On an insulated or approved section, no.
- The skin is bonded to a core
- The reinforcement behind carries the load
- Straightening the face fixes only the face
Will insurance pay to replace one garage door section?
It pays for what the covered event destroyed, so a single damaged section settles cleanly when the cause is covered and the damage is documented.
- Photograph the approval label, do not describe it
- An unobtainable profile turns it into a full claim
Does replacing a garage door section need a permit?
Replacing a single section with an identical one is normally treated as a repair to an existing door rather than as a new installation.
- A different maker changes the assembly
- A different profile changes the assembly
- A different reinforcement changes the assembly
Once the assembly stops matching what was approved, you are no longer repairing the permitted door, and the honest route back is a new filing.
